Jewish Education
Jewish education begins and preschool and continues throughout childhood with a focus on either a secular education or a religous education. Jewish preschools offer children a foundation in Jewish learning, while Jewish high schools prepare teenagers for further study in Jewish subjects possibly at the University level.
Jewish Day Schools
A Jewish day school is a newer Jewish educational institution that is setup to provide Jewish children with both a Jewish and a secular education in one school on a full time basis, thus its name of “day school” meaning a school that the students attend for an entire day and not only on a part time basis. The essence of the “Jewish” component varies from school to school, community to community, and usually depends on the Jewish denominations of the schools’ founders. While you may find some schools may stress Judaism and Torah study others rightly focus more on Jewish history, Hebrew language, Jewish food, Yiddish, secular Jewish culture, and the principles of Zionism.
